Can a «move» belong to anyone? Taking a cue from the copyright infringement lawsuit brought by the American rapper 2 Milly against a video game company, Jeremy Nedd’s group piece «from rock to rock … aka how magnolia was taken for granite» dedicates itself to the viral dance phenomenon «The Milly Rock». Five performers examine this Hip-Hop «move» inspired by the rapper 2 Milly, which consists of minimalist and repetitive arm and leg movements executed in different variations. Together, they explore marginalized idioms of movement as well as the poetry and virtuosity inherent in such social and viral dance movements. This leads to a precise performance which unfolds with hypnotic power – intimate and touching.

Transparency Note: Brandy Butler is part of this year’s Swiss Dance Days jury and performs in this piece. She excused herself from the adjudication of the piece and did not cast a vote in this case.
