Basel

Edition 2022

From 2 to 6 February 2021 in Basel, the 11th Swiss Dance Days had showcased the winning performances selected by the jury from almost 150 entries. Due to the pandemic the Swiss Dance Days of 2021 had to be cancelled, the selection (see archive) was retained and could be shown to a wide audience in 2022. The programme offered a snapshot of dynamic, humorous and powerful physical studies and autobiographical works full of performative joy and the courage to question virtuosity. A special focus is on several powerful works from the younger generation of Swiss choreographers.

Final selection

Clara Delorme

L’albâtre

Philippe Weissbrodt

White and exposed. Solo for a white body on a white background. A pulsating body in an empty space. The body of an animal; impossible to know whether it is being born or intoning its swan song. For a moment, some will recognize a bird, an insect, a serpent, in a characteristic movement of a wing, pupil or tail. Others will reckon they are seeing a piece of meat on a block, nothing but bones, muscle and sinew. A clear and powerful performance at the interface of choreography and dance, by no means taking place inside a bubble, but on a white square outside of time and space. L’albâtre (Alabaster) is a score of immobility and silence, of a body holding its breath, removed from daily life and distanced to the point of absurdity.
