Edition 2022
From 2 to 6 February 2021 in Basel, the 11th Swiss Dance Days had showcased the winning performances selected by the jury from almost 150 entries. Due to the pandemic the Swiss Dance Days of 2021 had to be cancelled, the selection (see archive) was retained and could be shown to a wide audience in 2022. The programme offered a snapshot of dynamic, humorous and powerful physical studies and autobiographical works full of performative joy and the courage to question virtuosity. A special focus is on several powerful works from the younger generation of Swiss choreographers.

Ruth Childs
Her first creation The Goldfish and the Inner Tube was an explosive exploration including sound, materials and bodies. For her first solo piece, fantasia, Childs choreographic research focuses on the body and its musicality, delving into the intimate layers of her physical and emotional memories triggered by the classical music she listened to as a child.
Stepping into an empty space, a white room, she invokes, plays, dialogues, embodies and fights with these musical recollections, using color, to punctuate and organize them, in an abstract auto portrait. Her body, shifting from projection screen, to human figure, to animal-like creature, to musical instrument, or to simple vibration, takes on, conducts, and questions the notion of what is intimate and what is collective.
British-American dancer and choreographer, Ruth Childs moved to Geneva in 2003 to join the Ballet Junior. She then works with many choreographers including Foofwa d’Imobilité, La Ribot, Gilles Jobin, Marco Berrettini and Yasmine Hugonnet, and founds her company Scarlett’s in 2014. Since 2015, she is also working on a revival project of the early works of her aunt, Lucinda Childs. In 2018 she makes her first stage piece with Stéphane Vecchione, The Goldfish and the Inner Tube.
