Edition 2022
From 2 to 6 February 2021 in Basel, the 11th Swiss Dance Days had showcased the winning performances selected by the jury from almost 150 entries. Due to the pandemic the Swiss Dance Days of 2021 had to be cancelled, the selection (see archive) was retained and could be shown to a wide audience in 2022. The programme offered a snapshot of dynamic, humorous and powerful physical studies and autobiographical works full of performative joy and the courage to question virtuosity. A special focus is on several powerful works from the younger generation of Swiss choreographers.

The Hype Call is an interactive concept from the Krump culture, a dance born in the 1990s in the suburbs of L.A. During a Hype Call, dancers encourage each other forcefully through digs to the ribs or other blows, accompanied by loud utterances, all of which are meant to induce an emotionally charged state. This is the point of departure for HAPPY HYPE, which offers its own kind of Hype Call. This performance unfolds a powerful, palpable trance or euphoria, manifesting the entire expressive power of human bodies. Accompanied by the fast rhythms of live music by DJ Mulah, glances, gestures and onomatopoeic exclamations animate the audience to join a universal, utopian dance consisting of simple rhythmical steps. The audience may decide how it wishes to participate in this colourful parade, which conveys an exuberant joie de vivre with great earnestness.
Friendship at first sight was the reason the graduates of the contemporary dance programme of Lausanne’s Manufacture decided to found the Collectif Ouinch Ouinch and the Compagnie des Marmots in 2015 resp. 2019. They share a predilection for folkloristic and urban dances, for ecstatic bodies and immersive stage situations – and have created Mon Luga and Molecutrio in this spirit.
