Basel

Edition 2022

From 2 to 6 February 2021 in Basel, the 11th Swiss Dance Days had showcased the winning performances selected by the jury from almost 150 entries. Due to the pandemic the Swiss Dance Days of 2021 had to be cancelled, the selection (see archive) was retained and could be shown to a wide audience in 2022. The programme offered a snapshot of dynamic, humorous and powerful physical studies and autobiographical works full of performative joy and the courage to question virtuosity. A special focus is on several powerful works from the younger generation of Swiss choreographers.

Final selection

Teresa Vittucci, Colin Self

DOOM

Ramon Königshausen

In DOOM, Teresa Vittucci invites Colin Self, to turn their attention to the origins of the female figure as laid out in Genesis and Greek mythology: Eve and Pandora. This second part of her trilogy in praise of vulnerability - after the award winning HATE ME, TENDER - examines the two female figures with a critical and queer-feminist gaze.

The narratives of Eve and Pandora, and the role attributions that accompany them, have been and continue to be crucial to the status of women in all Christian-Judaic and Abrahamic societies. In a poetic exploration, Vittucci and Self delve into the field of unknowable knowledge. Who is hurt when female curiosity meets the patriarchal structure, and: what risk lies in the decision to open one's eyes nonetheless?
