Geneva

Edition 2017

In the run-up to this celebration of contemporary dance, which is held every two years in a different Swiss city, a jury comprising five leading figures from the world of dance has watched more than 140 productions over the last 12 months. The winning entries will be presented at 12 venues across Geneva, which have joined forces especially for the occasion through the creation of an association and a small team.

In doing so, they, alongside Reso – Dance Network Switzerland, provide a tangible demonstration of their commitment to the art of choreography and dance in Switzerland. The Swiss Dance Days, which are also open to the public, are aimed at professionals – journalists, festival directors, programmers – from both Switzerland and abroad.

Final selection

Lea Moro

(b)reaching stillness

Dieter Hartwig

Dance critics long considered motionlessness as a non-movement or, at most, the marking of its absence. Yet, there is no such thing as motionlessness; it is a construct of the mind, not the body. This is especially true for the three dancers who, naked from the waist up, take over the blue-velvet stage and use every means in their power to show the lifeblood that flows through them. They achieve this by using the surface of their skin to mirror the subtle movements taking place within their beating bodies. In this opulent and rather baroque piece, the choreographer makes the imperceptible perceptible. To the sumptuous sound of Gustave Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 in C minor, (b)reaching stillness is a reflection on how forms take shape, from the very beginning right through to the end.

BiografieBiography

The Swiss choreographer and dancer Lea Moro working in Zurich and Berlin, got her career off to a flying start thanks to her iconoclastic solo interpretation of the classic ballet The Rite of Spring. In her work, whether as a choreographer and dancer, she continues to bring in new forms and take part in a diverse range of projects; in 2015 the magazine tanz crowned her choreographer of the year. Her group piece, which will be performed at the Swiss Contemporary Dance Days 2017, originally caused a stir at the 2016 Dance Platform in Germany, and led to a European tour.
