OUVERTURE – piece for dancers and walking audience

© Pierre Vogel

«OUVERTURE – piece for dancers and walking audience», the third creation by the dancer and choreographer Géraldine Chollet, is inspired by the tradition of medieval mystery plays. These communal ceremonies mixed metaphysical and real elements, the sacred and the profane. They served to invoke the hereafter, beg for mercy, attain favour or to question viewers and protagonists alike. Evoking this ritual character, the audience for «OUVERTURE» continuously move in a circle. The performers dance in the centre, periodically breaking out of the centre, joining the circle and returning to the centre. This creates a continuous rotating pull, a ritual carried out collectively by the community, in which the viewers are involved as active participants. In this simple yet festive choreographic setup, we are all invited to acknowledge what we have, accept what we are lacking and celebrate what may come.
