In «2020: Obscene», Alexandra Bachzetsis examines the ambivalence of the terms «scene» and «obscene» which is alluded to in the title. In a collaborative process, she tests the conditions for staged (re-)presentation, emphasizing how excessively bodies are staged and exposed on stage, while the desirous eyes of the viewers follow them. The focus here is on theatre as a dispositive and its potential for manipulation: a place of seduction, attraction and playing with sexual identity. «2020: Obscene» dedicates itself to excess as a radical interruption of conventional forms, gestures, cultural patterns and archetypes, in order to actively question the subversive and normative aspects of performance art.

Alexandra Bachzetsis works as a choreographer and artist at the interdisciplinary interface of dance, performance, visual art and theatre. She is a graduate of the performance education programme of the STUK Arts Center in Leuven and holds a master’s degree from the Das Arts – Advanced Research in Theatre and Dance Studies Centre in Amsterdam. Since 2001, she has created more than thirty solo and group pieces, which have been shown all over the world at theatres, festivals, in museums and galleries and in the public space.
