«Joyaux lourdement sous-estimés» – which might translate into English as «strongly underestimated jewels» – is the story of two men who love, fight, rediscover, hate and reconcile with one another, as if in a dark dream. Searching for tenderness, mutual understanding and connection, together they explore different forms of relationships: from open relationships to chemsex, from platonic connections to polyamory. On stage, the two bodies merge, challenging one another, reinventing themselves. Embraces become a language, grappling with another body a form of rethinking relationships. Pas de deux and music combine in a polyphonic patchwork of identity fragments, sonic colours and pop music.
«Joyaux lourdement sous-estimés» questions our ways of loving and the scripts of heteronormative couples. By exploring alternative couple structures, the piece invites viewers to liberate themselves from the idealization of the couple and imagine new forms – towards a sensitive, illuminated space where lust and vulnerability coexist, where tenderness becomes political, and where bodies learn to love and leave one another.
