Élie Autin / Cie Les Bacchantes
«Présage» by Élie Autin / Cie Les Bacchantes creates a contemporary myth in which racism, discrimination and fetishization of certain bodies are illuminated. The source of inspiration is provided by the mythological figures of the bacchantes (female followers of Bacchus, the god of wine and inebriation) and the furies (goddesses of the underworld). Referring to these mythological figures, stories and images, Élie Autin demonstrates how parts of the western world perceive her. Sacrificial rituals of the bacchantes in which their victims are torn apart are performed with relish and humour. «Présage» unfolds as a fairy-tale for adults, showing the path of a fallen chimera and the brutality and wounds caused by (everyday) racism which Élie experiences in the West (as do many other non-White persons). On stage, she creates a visionary place, a precursor of a new world – yet to come – in which we can (or could) all live together.
Élie Autin completed a bachelor’s degree in contemporary dance at the Manufacture – Haute école des arts de la scène in Lausanne. Dancer/Performer and model, she will present «Présage» and her second dance aplo «Antichambre» in the upcoming months. She works with various artists, including Tamara Alegre, caner teker, Marvin M’toumo, Natasza Gerlach, Juliette Uzor, Ioannis Mandafounis collective Ouinch Ouinch, and others. Élie recently received the «Prix de la relève» from the Culture Foundation of the Canton Vaud.
